Shopping in chinatown

July 23, 2008

The marketplaces in Chinatown (particularly this market place ) are teeming with colors, sounds and smells. I lived in Korea for part of my life and each time, I'm reminded of the open markets there. Foods are sometimes alive and overall much closer to its original state than you'd find it at a supermarket. Instead of pork wrapped in plastic, you'll see the whole pig in pieces (including  Read more...

Kahuku shrimp truck

July 21, 2008

Besides the wonderful feeling you get when you see people you haven't seen for awhile, we love having visitors because it means Shrimp Truck. I'm talking about the REAL shrimp truck. The one and only Giovanni Shrimp Truck in Kahuku. We plan a whole day around getting to the shrimp truck because it's literally on the other side of the island. Plus there's lots to see on the way.  Read more...

Sometimes you have to just get away...

July 16, 2008

But sometimes you just want to get away. No, not to where everybody knows your name, but just  Read more...

History Lesson.: Pineapple Fields

May 23, 2008

[photo credit: istockphoto] There is much to learn about Hawaii 's history. One big part of our history is how we became a state filled with different cultures when many people from all over the world came to Hawaii to work in the plantations.
