Highlights from Books, Toys and More Part 2

December 02, 2008

Last time I highlighted 5 books from our new Books, Toys and More section (you'll find the tab above).  Today I'm highlighting 5 favorite toys and what I said about them. About the Fruit and Vegetable Play Set by Plan Toys: I love to cook, which means that Noah loves to watch me and then pretend to cook too. We have a bunch of play pots and pans and play food. But these "interactive" play  Read more...

Funny Books

November 18, 2008

Everything is funny to Noah these days. Especially poop, shi shi and burping. He thinks that when he sings "twinkle, twinkle little doo doo!" it's the funniest thing ever. And of course I think it's funny, because it's funny that he thinks it's funny. He's starting to get the whole humor things through the written word too. Our three go to books right now to get a good laugh are:  Read more...

Your own perfect book

November 06, 2008

I've tried to utilize Noah's love books to help him explore other skills and experiences. I copied the idea from his preschool teacher, and made a book at home about Noah, himself. I stapled some pages together between sheets of colorful construction paper. On the first page, Noah wrote is own name out. You can make out the lopsided and multisized letters just fine. On another  Read more...

Books with rhythm

November 05, 2008

My favorite book to read aloud are the kind written in rhythm. Sometimes they rhyme, sometimes they don't. Either way, it's fun to read to a beat. And after a few run throughs, the rhythm makes it easy for Noah to pretend to read along too. Some of our favorites are: Miss Mary Mack by Ann Hoberman, illustrated by Nadine Bernard Wescott: A really cute book about a girl and  Read more...

Crockpot Caramel Apples; our new tradition

October 22, 2008

We can get apples any time of year, but for some reason, I associate them with the Fall season. When the Halloween candy shows up in the supermarket, it makes me want to buy lots of crunchy apples to eat whole and bake into pies. But this year we did something else with our apples too. We covered them in melted caramel, and gobbled them up. It's something I am adding to our lives as a  Read more...

The positive side of tv

October 15, 2008

I know, I know. I've heard it a million times. TV is bad for kids. But my motto is life is all about moderation. As long as you don't gorge yourself, it's fine to indulge here and there. At our house, it's ok to have the occasional Oreo or Cheetos as long as you're eating lots of other good stuff most of the time. In the same sense, some TV is fine. I do try to control what  Read more...

Places to inspire the imagination

October 14, 2008

Whenever were out and about, I try to keep a dialogue going with Noah about what he may be seeing or experiencing. His language skills grow every day but sometimes he still needs me to guide him and put his thoughts to words. Then there are other times when he doesnt need me. The words he puts together may not be in perfect sentences, but they make up the perfect story in his head, inspired  Read more...

Playing dress up

October 13, 2008

One great way for your child to get lost in their imagination is for them to dress up and feel different than their usual selves. We are just starting to build up our dress up supply at our house but it is already fun to see my son take on different roles and act out his own stories. So far he has performed *the pirate who cooks pancakes* and *they cowboy who blows bubbles*. I am sure as his  Read more...

Best playdate spots

September 09, 2008

Not all fun places are created equal. Some adventures are better done alone. For instance, i arranged a play date at the park recently. It didn't go well because there was so much space to run and the other little boy turned out to love running just as much as Noah does. Us moms couldn't get a minute to sit and talk because we were constantly chasing after our boys. And the boys never got  Read more...

Come on, shake your little bootie.

August 13, 2008

Does you kid love to dance? Do YOU love to dance? Then you're in luck. There's another Baby Loves Disco event at the O Lounge this Saturday the 16 th . Baby Loves Disco is basically a dance party for little ones. Some parents in the mainland missed the dance life and decided to host some for families. Now, Baby Loves Disco events go on all over the country. Since Noah  Read more...
